Landscapers, Plant, and Garden Supplies

Ace Hardware
West Sedona
1570 W. Hwy 89A
928.282.0263

Sedona Ace Hardware sells customer service. In my book they rank as one the most friendly businesses in Sedona (or anywhere for that matter). Ace has a pretty good garden section and often has what I need at an attractive price. These folks are some of the best in town to work with. The garden staff are knowledgeable and if you know what you want they’ll probably have it or can order it easily. Plenty of garden supplies are in stock including bagged topsoil, mulch, and soil amendments.

Joanne and Jim Biddle own and operate this unique gardening and nursery supply business. It’s an excellent local source for top-quality trees, plants, and flowers. Their ample selection of bedding plants fills the entire front courtyard of this large property and is the first thing you’ll see as you stroll through their entrance under the canopy of a huge willow tree. This business represents the oldest, continuously-operating nursery and garden center in the Verde Valley. They’ve even got their own stoplight on Highway 89A! Family owned and operated for over 25 years, Biddles is a Sedona institution, much like the Coffeepot Restaurant, Rollies Camera, or Tlaquepaque. Their children operate the onsite landscape and pool division, specializing in hot tubs of every shape and size. To finish your garden oasis in style Biddles also offers one of the largest collections of planter pots, garden decorations, and patio furniture in Northern Arizona.

“A cooperative of landscape professionals working together to create a user friendly, one-stop gardening center.”
What more can I say than this plaza is astounding. You have to walk through a few times, like touring a botanical garden, before you start your “Buy” list or ask any questions. I do a lot of gardening and landscaping, mostly as a passion for green things and way of playing with rocks and dirt. For one Sedona project I spent four years and approximately 1,500 hours replacing an empty lot with a jungle of fruit trees, shady shrubs, flowers, and herbs encased with dry-stack red rock walls and ivy-covered trellis fences. I purchased my initial plants for that yard from these guys just after they opened. Their original supply yard was thorough yet humble in scope. Now they’re the pre-eminent source in Northern Arizona for landscape plants, bamboo species, flowers and herbs, water features, and professional landscape guidance. This diverse group of professionals offers expert skills for every phase of yard and garden design and installation including initial design, construction, sourcing of plants, irrigation, and follow-up maintenance. I like the people at Greenworks Plaza for a variety of reasons. They’re easy to talk with, highly-experienced, and deeply knowledgeable in each of their prospective fields. And as a pleasant surprise in the customer service department, they cooperate and connect you to the person most capable of helping you with your specific task or question. The Greenworks team shares a common love for beauty and nature in the home, business, or yard. They get my business every time.

Nursery Source – Tony Morrrone

The plant people. Specimen-quality trees, plants, shrubs, and flowers at reasonable prices. An incredible
selection of sizes ranging from typical 1, 5, and 15 gallon containers to huge 24” boxed trees. They constantly add new and exciting inventory, often in response to customer suggestions. If they don’t stock the plant or variety you need they will give you accurate ordering and delivery dates so you won’t have to look at empty holes in your garden. They use only quality plant sources and provide some of the healthiest specimens I have ever purchased anywhere.

Raindance Waterworks – Wes Coates and Ken Dodds
928.239.0088

In 2005 I built a 7 foot tall by 9 foot wide, red rock waterfall for a residence in the Village of Oak Creek.
Raindance supplied me with all the equipment and parts necessary to complete the job and more importantly
the expertise to counsel my design and installation questions. If you are a homeowner in search of a waterfall,
pond, or stream for your Sedona garden of earthly delights, you can trust these fellows to set your dream in
motion.

Bamboo 4-U – Tyler Fisher and Mukto Kolonko
2970 W. Hwy 89A – next to the Giant Gas Station
928.282.3434

Bamboo rules as a Zen garden touch. It also makes an efficient green privacy screen. With over 20 varieties
in stock that are specifically adapted to Sedona’s climate, the bamboo boys have the style you seek. Black
Bamboo is my perennial favorite, however their unusual Tiger Bamboo is quickly winning my admiration
for its variegated beauty and vigorous growth.

Jim Law and crew provide full service landscape service and irrigation design and installation. He has over 18 years of experience and specializes in ponds, waterfalls, patios, and outdoor lighting. Visit his website's gallery and take a look at some of the excellent Sedona projects he and his team have accomplished. I love to build dry-stack rock walls, flagstone patios, and Zen-style boulder/rock gardens. Jim Law's work exhibits a similar love and affinity for dirt, plants, and stone. Though we have never met, I feel like I know him. Indeed, I've enjoyed his work at local Sedona venues like Alma de Sedona Bed & Breakfast and Relics Restaurant and I'm sure I've spotted his artistic landscape touch in a number of neighborhoods around town. If you want to create a beautiful environment and make your property more than just a yard, Jim will make it so.

Little’s Good Gloves

You’ve probably seen gloves like these at your local hardware supply store: elastic, lightweight, knit gloves with bright-colored, rubber-like Nitrile coatings on the palms and the fingers. Now that I’ve discovered this type of glove I consider it an absolute essential for rock work, gardening, and the loading or unloading of any heavy, rough material. These gloves offer perfect grip and control without being stiff or bulky like many traditional glove designs. Little’s goes a step further with their vast assortment of high-quality, Nitrile-coated gloves. Their classic “Mud Glove” coats the entire glove with a grippy Nitrile coating and their “Thornmaster” is even longer and thicker for ultra thorn protection. The “Gauntlet” model features quality suede gauntlets attached to goatskin gloves for the serious rose pruner who needing complete forearm coverage. The Mud Glove’s grip is superb, the fit snug and dependable, and because of the total Nitrile coverage I won’t have to worry any longer about scorpion stings when I’m loading rocks or firewood. After the serious thrill of three scorpion stings over the years, it’s about time!
