Fixed wing aircraft, the industry’s term for airplanes, are considerably less expensive to fly than helicopters. They can’t fly as slow or hover like a helicopter, however they can cover a lot of territory in a short time. Their true value shines on longer scenic journeys. Sedona Sky Treks offers many tours, from Sedona to Bryce Canyon. The tour that intrigues me most is their "Grand Canyon / Havasupai Day Tour". It's relatively expensive, but oh, the sights you'll see and the experiences you'll enjoy! You’ll even land at the bottom of the Grand Canyon near Supai, ride horseback to the waterfalls, swim and play for hours, helicopter back up to the rim, and finish your once-in-a-lifetime journey with a stunning sightseeing flight back to Sedona by plane. What a day...

I love viewing the earth's terrain from the sky. My favorite way, other than Paragliding, is by helicopter. I have spent about 10 hours in these ships over the years: filming a professional video with a friend, on advertising photo shoots, flying between airports and cities, and just general sightseeing. Sedona's back canyons, seen this way, are unforgettable. To get the best photos or video footage on a Sedona helicopter tour, capture the shadows and canyon contrasts by going early or at the end of the day. This is especially true in the summer when the mid-day sun bleaches out the landscape and makes everything looks flat. See in an hour flight what would take you weeks, perhaps months, to explore on foot.

The oldest and largest balloon company in Northern Arizona, with over 27 years of flight experience in the area. One of only two companies with a Coconino National Forest permit that allows them to take off, fly, and land in the Sedona Red Rock region. These flights are totally amazing and offer silent viewing of wildlife as well as stunning vistas of Sedona's rock formations. The relatively motionless flight of a balloon offers a unique aerial view in a manner that can only be described as peaceful.

A powerchute is a motorized parachute of sorts. My only frame of reference for this experience would be that I have paraglided (Parapente) in northern Arizona, a non-motorized flight a bit like parachuting off a peak or hill. Every dream I ever had about flying came true the moment my feet left the ground. The great advantage of this motorized setup is that you can fly almost anywhere, anytime, weather permitting. I've watched this baby winging its way through the Red Rocks and could almost taste the wind and excitement as it soared slowly over the terrain. As I've said before, I love the aerial view. This seems like a great way to see Sedona's beautiful back country at low altitude and slow speed. Primo.
