Food: Wholesome, home-style Italian View: One of Sedona's finest - Oak Creek, Schnebly Hill, Snoopy; one of two or three Sedona restaurants where you can sit outside during a full force summer thunderstorm, stay dry, and enjoy the show Price: Moderate Atmosphere: Simple Italian decor, bright tablecloths, compact, many decks, large floor-to-ceiling windows, busy, warm, social.

Sedona dining is as much about the view and ambiance as it is about the cuisine. It might not matter that you're perched on a slope 100 feet above the view in most locations, however in Sedona it makes a huge difference. The Hideaway has a very natural setting complete with dynamic scenic views. Despite the fact that it is right off a busy, Uptown highway, it has one of the most beautiful views available anywhere in Sedona, Arizona, or America (?). That said, you will enjoy the whole dining experience here because the Hideaway has good, wholesome Italian food that is consistent and unpretentious. There are plenty of "experimental" restaurants that push the boundaries of traditional ethnic cuisines, some successfully and others not so well. I like the Hideaway's handmade, personal-sized pizzas, the spaghetti Supreme, and the Lasagna. I don't expect to order something "al dente" because that's for the other places that charge twice the price. The Hideaway cooks their pasta that way anyway...

It gets very busy here in season (which is every month except January!), especially right around sunset when locals stop by to enjoy the sublime light show on the red rocks above Oak Creek directly across from the restaurant's ample decks. There's a sport's bar upstairs that has its own view deck. The main restaurant is downstairs and has several decks as well as inside seating. The decks have removable windows that come off during spring, summer, and fall. The giant cottonwood and sycamore trees that line the creek below create a canopy of lush green that envelopes your dining experience. My good friend Marc, another true "hands-on" manager, owns and operates the Hideaway and is a wonderful host. If he's in when you stop by, tell him whether or not you agree with my review. Honest feedback helps us all.

Food: Supreme Mediterranean cuisine View: The view is inside: small windows look out onto their charming patio and entranceway Price: Expensive Atmosphere: Right out of "Architectural Digest", absolutely epicurean, old-world art, domed ceilings with night-sky fiber optics, multiple rooms with individual decor styles, romantic, attentive service, Sedona dining at its finest, a place to bring any out-of-town friend, relative, or business associate and blow their mind (can this be Sedona?).

Wow, if you love fine dining you've got to experience Cucina Rustica. No expense has been spared in making its ambiance stand up to any restaurant, anywhere. The cuisine is equally impressive. I am not a gourmand, however I have friends who are and they heartily concur. It would be a shame to be in a hurry here; this is a restaurant, atmosphere, and dining experience to be savored over many hours, over many courses. Andrea and Lisa, the owners, chefs, and designers also own the famous West Sedona Italian restaurant, Dahl & DiLuca, known for its gourmet quality and delightful ambiance. Cucina takes it one step further and steps into the stratosphere of a handful of restaurants that have the ability to capture the essence of the landscape, locale, and spirit of their geographical place. I have sampled several of Cucina Rustica's entrees, appetizers, and desserts. I loved them all.
