Coffeepot Restaurant
2050 W. Hwy 89A

Breakfast / Lunch

Food
: American and Mexican / View: Fantastic murals by White Bear, eclectic art pieces, people-watching, and a private, sunscreened, outside courtyard filled with plants and trees Price: Inexpensive to Moderate Atmosphere: busy, high-volume sound of talking when full, quick service, colorful art, multi-level seating for people-watching, a place to see and be seen, large portions of tasty food.

This is one of Sedona's dining institutions that is almost always crowded with a line sometimes out the door. Open at 6am, the Coffeepot gets a lot of the working class on their way to work. Emile brought the Coffeepot Restaurant back from obscurity and turned it into a thriving place under his careful management, his taste for quality, and his excellent organizational skills. The Coffeepot opened in the 1950's when West Sedona was virtually empty of commercial businesses along Highway 89A and there was still a lot of empty lots and acreage. In the 1980's Jane Russell moved to town and bought the Coffeepot for her son. He turned it into "Dude's Far Western", are you ready, a country Western Disco! It survived in that incarnation for a mere 2-3 years before going belly up. I dropped in a few times and even saw a sad live appearance by song, stage, and screen star Eartha Kitt. I say sad because Ms. Kitt was so intoxicated that at one point she jumped off the stage screaming and into the face of a front row heckler who had been apparently laughing at her performance. That was my last visit until the Coffeepot was reborn once more as the West Sedona breakfast and lunch place extaordinaire.

The restaurant's owner Emile is somewhat of a luminary himself: as you walk in take a look at the massive photo collection of Hollywood stars, artists, musicians, sports figures, newscasters, and business big shots that cover the entryway wall, all personally signed "to Emile" with best wishes... You'll know why if you meet him - and meet him you quite possibly will as you enter the restaurant. He spends a lot of time there as a "hands-on" restauranteur, busy seating new guests while simultaneously managing the energy Vortex of such an intensely popular Sedona landmark. Emile has old-world charm and poise. He's a gentleman and a warrior in the finest way. The Coffeepot is a meeting place as well as a restaurant - you can't help but notice how many locals walk in only to be called, greeted, or hugged by other friends who just happen to be dining there. Sedona synchronicity at its finest. The parking scene here is crazy as is most of Sedona because it was not designed for 5 million visitors a year. Be careful not to park next door to the west in the Pink Jeep employee lot or on the east side in the professional plaza. Instead, if the lot is full, which it generally is, park across the street in the Harkin's movie theater plaza and use the crosswalk at the stoplight on the corner of Coffeepot and Hwy 89A. I know it's a bit of a walk, however please don't try to save time by making a dash across Hwy 89A with the kids or grandparents. The traffic is just too unpredictable to risk it.

Food: Eclectic, dynamic Continental cuisine View: Exquisite art, Trompe l' oeil, an outdoor, high-walled courtyard for dining that is right out of "House and Garden" magazine filled with fragrant vines, plants, and an outdoor fireplace Price: Moderate to Expensive Atmosphere: old-world charm, intimate, soft lighting, tight European-style seating, superior service, superior cuisine, intimate bar, outstanding ambiance.

If you want to experience one of the finest dining experiences that Sedona has to offer, this the place to find it. I have been a loyal patron since the Heartline opened in 1991 for many reasons, the primary being that it never disappoints. It's one of those places you come to love because of the high quality at every turn - cuisine, service, ambiance, friendliness, and consistency.

Chuck and Phyllis Cline own and personally operate the fabulous Heartline Café, one of my top three restaurant. The atmosphere is blissful, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating (weather permitting), and the service and dining experience is exactly the kind you'd expect from a superior restaurant - attentive, efficient, and friendly. Chef Chuck Cline, co-owner along with his wife Phyllis, presents masterful culinary treats that you will be remember fondly as an important facet of your Sedona visit. The quality is superb.

The recent addition of their gourmet market is just another example of "Dreams Coming True" in Sedona. The market's opening has answered dreams many of us did not realize we even had. A wide selection of quality imported and locally-produced gourmet foods lines the shelves in addition to the Heartline's own divine food products. Once again I am going to advise you to visit this establishment. You may email your applause later.

Chuck has collected his favorite recipes and assembled them into a fantastic cookbook called Recipes From Sedona's Heartline Café. Originally published in 2000, the second printing followed in 2004 due to the hearty response of readers and food aficionados. You can find a link to Amazon through our bookstore under "Restaurants & Food" or pick up a copy at the Heartline Café in Sedona when you come by to sample the fine cuisine and ambiance.

Food: American and Mexican with Larry's specialty - slow-cooked Baby Back Ribs View: Outer hummingbird courtyard and TV screens over the bar Price: Inexpensive to Moderate Atmosphere: small, compact, simple, busy, comfortable.

I have been a customer of Larry's since he took over the old Friendly Bob's building and launched Keiser's West. Larry's wife Judi is well-known in these parts for her charming restaurant, Judi's, a Sedona classic. A lot of locals and visitors frequent Keiser's and consider it one of their favorites. I consider it one of the very best Sedona breakfast spots in town. Ample portions, good quality, and quick service fill the morning rush hour bill. The breakfast sandwich is a top seller and you'll see diners ordering all sorts of wonderful items. Larry has a special knack in preparing super delectable, slow-cooked Baby Back Ribs and serves them in the style that his father did at the original Keiser's restaurant back east, the inspiration for this one way out West. With block walls and small rooms it's not a quiet place on the sound level scale; it's a place to hang out with friends and have a satisfying meal and listen to people from around town talking about the latest news. Comfy booths and tables plus a bar with stools facing two screens hosting CNN and satellite sports channels.

For vegetarians seeking top-quality food prepared with intense love, Chef Sha Ron Hart will exceed all your expectations. Sha Ron has years of experience in the natural food business including Vegan food preparation, natural baking, and juice bar management. The local Sedona media has discovered her tantalizing veggie burger and labeled it the “Best in the West”. I agree. And remember that includes California with its myriad vegetarian food sources! Stop by and enjoy the Racquet Club’s outdoor fitness-oriented atmosphere, too. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a healthful meal.

History galore! Formerly the Oak Creek Tavern, established in 1946 and a famous hangout of visiting Sedona western movie stars like John Wayne, Gail Russell, Burt Lancaster, Joan Crawford, Jane Russell, Glenn Ford, and Jimmy Stewart, the Cowboy Club is the Uptown restaurant and bar of choice among locals and visitors alike. Tom Gilomen owns and operates this gem and quality rules the service, food, and atmosphere. The Silver Saddle room is the Club’s fine dining venue and free range beef and buffalo fire up the faire. When the Cowboy Artists of America was created here in 1965 by current Sedona resident Joe Beeler and fellow Western artist friends, who would have thought that one day the Tavern would become the Club?
