Sedona Photos

These are some of my favorite Sedona photo sites, some professional and others homegrown. There are literally hundreds of personal websites online that include photos of Sedona. After your visit, you can add your own to the growing list and perhaps get your site added here as well. If you have a website featuring Sedona photos, let me know.

Sedona is one of the most photographed landscapes in the United States. For many years it has been home to a number of exceptional photographers. Oak Creek Canyon and the Red Rocks appear in countless magazine and newspaper articles and often serve as a background for automobile and clothing advertisements. I have worked on dozens of photo shoots over the years during my years as a Jeep tour guide for Pink Jeep Tours. Even television shows such as PBS’s “Country Inn Cooking with Gail Greco” or “Truckin’ USA” more than casually highlighted the terrain and town while covering their shows’ main topic. National Geographic’s “Traveler” in January/February, 1991, had a full feature article with photos by Ira Block that really put Sedona in the national spotlight and accelerated the Domino effect of photographs of Sedona’s majestic beauty popping up all over the mainstream media. Bring your camera and plan on spending some time dedicated to recording images of this special place. Not just passing through, either; get out on the land and immerse yourself. Your photos can then later remind you of your Sedona experience and stir the pleasant feelings associated with this sacred land and powerful natural environment.

Wow! If you haven't discovered Flickr yet, you'll be amazed. Just put in the "Tag" or word you are searching for and hundreds, if not thousands, of photos on your subject will show up (over 4,000 tagged "Sedona"). There is no exact order so you'll have to just click through the galleries until you find one you like. Then you can view all that person's photos in a slide show or bring them up one at a time and read the descriptions and comments surrounding them. One photo subject leads to another and the hours fly by....

NAU Cline Library – Colorado Plateau Digital Archives

Search one of the world's largest archives of photos concerning the Colorado Plateau region, Sedona included. Set the Wayback Machine and insert the word “Sedona” in the search field and 104 historic photos appear: a 1902 view of the Sedona Schnebly homestead with family standing in front, the James homestead circa 1890, and a 1971 pre-Tlaquepaque photo along Oak Creek at the Hwy 179 bridge are just a few of the killer shots you have to see to believe. I arrived in 1973, just after Tlaquepaque opened and was amazed to shuffle through this trip down memory lane. Photo #68 is of Don Pratt, founder of Pink Jeep Tours, on Submarine Rock in 1969. To truly blow your mind, see photo #71 from 1936 showing the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC or triple C) camp at the present day location of the Quality Inn King’s Ransom Hotel on Hwy 179 next to Circle K.
