Sedona’s plazas, centers, and marketplaces are home to many of the fine shops listed throughout our site. Some are strictly art plazas while others contain a variety of restaurants, food stores, and miscellaneous businesses. Because their sizes range from 3-4 businesses to a mall with over 30 outlet stores, don’t always expect obvious signs or parking lots to designate the plaza you seek. It might be tucked between several other storefronts like the old Uptown Felsot Building or standing alone like Tlaquepaque.

Established in 1974 by Abe Miller, Tlaquepaque is one of the best, if not the best, plaza in Arizona. It's certainly my favorite: the atmosphere, architecture, location, shops, restaurants, and physical beauty are without equal. Notice how the walls and buildings were carefully built around the ancient Arizona Sycamore trees in order to preserve the spring/summer/fall shade-tree canopy and atmosphere. Some shops even have trees growing inside the store and through the ceiling. The flower gardens, planted trees, shrubs, potted plants, and fern grottos are compelling statements of the original head gardener, Shig, whose earlier career was responsible for creating the fabulous Los Angeles Yogananda Temple gardens. The shops are one-of-a-kind, the annual Shakespeare Festival is a delight, and the open-air Farmers Market during harvest season is totally rewarding. Stroll around, enjoy shopping and fine food, and then find a quiet bench next to a fountain and dream about your life...
