One of the original written resources for hikers everywhere. Backpacker Magazine has a nifty website with excellent gear reviews, destination links, training tips, expert advice, and all kinds of hiking, backpacking, and camping techniques and tools.
This resource is definitely one of the finest on the web for doing your homework before you go. In their own words, GORP is “an encyclopedic resource for outdoor recreation”. This website is truly one of the most comprehensive resources for anything that has to do with outdoor recreation: hiking, fishing, biking, camping, rafting, rock climbing, and more. Use the GORP search bar and enter the word “Sedona”. Numerous articles about fly-fishing, mountain biking, wilderness areas, swimming, and family destinations for Sedona only are listed. Their database must be huge to offer so much information about so many places.
Along with GORP, Backpacker, and AZVenture in Hiking, Peak to Peak is in the top five websites for Arizona hiking trail and wilderness links. Interestingly enough, some of the links on one site do not show up on others. You’ll have to surf a bit to reap the benefits of each site’s particular focus. Peak to Peak has a large variety of independent hiking sites sponsored by groups and individuals. This is especially nice when you have a destination like Sedona in mind and can find like-minded hikers to contact or links to the area with trail info and photos.
Impressive list of over 2,800 websites involved with hiking. One of the five websites on Arizona were dead links and there is apparently no way to contact the webmaster because they are redesigning the product search system. Too bad. That said, the rest of the website has an amazing amount of trail info. It would take days to capture all the knowledge one can find here.
