Biking

Sedona’s nickname in the mountain biking world is “Mini Moab”. Over 200-hundred miles of single track trails adorn this mountain biking mecca. Some trails are accessible from your hotel or resort’s door while others involve a little drive. Either way, you can be blasting along in no time.

Join Rama and the Sedona Gnarly Crew for mountain bike adventures ranging from beginner to pure Gonzo. Simon, Amp, and Crazy Steve, long-time crew members, are friends of mine and I’ve watched them do approaches, drops, and runs that would blow most bikers’ minds. They know the Red Rock territory in detail and have biked every nook and cranny. Rama owns and operates Mountain Bike Heaven, one of Sedona’s premier bike shops and host to Bikapelli. If you want to fly with some of Sedona’s best riders and soak up what only locals know, put on your body armor and give them a call. It cuts the learning curve and gets you in deep from the get-go.

Susan Amon and Frank Hassler get you going on Sedona trails in a big-time fun way at MTB. Possessing a coveted Coconino National Forest permit that allows legal tour operation in the Sedona Ranger District is just one important distinction that sets this company apart. Years of local trail riding and dirt time also distinguish MTB from the pack. I am a big proponent of Tread Lightly programs for 4x4 motor vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles, bicycles, and hikers. Susan and Frank know what’s what in this department and truly ride the path.

Mtn. Bike Passion Discussion Board on MtbReview.com

The name of this forum is “Passion” if that gives you any ideas about how serious these riders are. I read a quick posting by the forum administrator about his $49K emergency medical bill and $24K medi-vac helicopter flight resulting from a nasty incident incurred while biking. Yow! One of his get-well-wishers, DiRt DeViL, offered his thoughts on life in response as a poem: “Life is not like a box of chocolates...it’s more like a jar of jalapenos. Whatever you do today, may burn your ass tomorrow”. I’m not sure if it was his original thoughts or someone he was quoting, however the point is well-taken.
