Anyone who remembers the Oak Creek Owl, Sedona’s first true gourmet restaurant famous for its memorable piano bar and the profusion of local art visible on every inch of wall space, recalls the artwork painted inside the main entrance door. A splendid “trompe l’oeil” (French for “fool the eye”) that imitated a window on the world greeted and sometimes confused visitors as they entered the small hallway. It was a magical entrance to a fantastic dining experience that thousands of locals and visitors shared. Allison Williams was the artist who created that celebrated entrance art and continues to produce imaginative wall art for businesses and homes throughout Arizona. Prime examples of her talent are the mural at the Jungle Hut next to Ace Hardware as well as the powerful art across the high wall of the Art Mart at Harkins Plaza in West Sedona. Allison’s interior art includes faux tapestries, disappearing elevators, and garden terrace views that are sometimes joined by whimsical decorative vignettes like floral bouquets and bottles of wine. Allison describes her work as “wall art” instead of merely Faux art. It goes far beyond.
