Fitness

Sedona gyms and fitness centers are generally stand-alone businesses dedicated to personal fitness and training. Several of the larger resorts like the Hilton Sedona or the Sedona Racquet Club also have excellent workout facilities and may offer private memberships.

Curves Sedona
West Sedona – Safeway Plaza
2370 W. Hwy 89A
928.282.0035

According to a female friend of mine Curves is the best workout place for women in Sedona. It has no distractions (men) and women of all ages and shapes feel relaxed knowing that no one is concerned with their workout except themselves. My friend counseled that this is important to her and many other members because co-ed gyms and fitness centers are often more about looking good for members of the opposite sex than a place to truly get in shape. Curves succeeds because of friendly coaches, good equipment, and a supportive atmosphere.

“Boot Camp” in Sedona? Crossfit represents fitness that is broad, general, and inclusive, all by design. Fitness that’s oriented to anyone of any age. Fitness that varies person to person in degree and intensity, but not in kind. This blend of functional movements like pushing, pulling, lifting, running, and squatting aims at making you fit for anything. Crossfit Sedona offers one-on-one training as well as group workouts. Lincoln Brigham is the owner of the Sedona Crossfit gym and has real-life fitness qualifications including National Masters Weightlifting championship medals for 2002–2004, a prestigious CSCS certification from the National Strength Coach Association, and numerous first place awards at dance championships including the 2003 UCWDC World Championships. I like Lincoln’s training style...Bruce Lee was a dance champion (the British Hong Kong Colony Cha-Cha Champion), too, before he mastered Gung-Fu and became superfit.

Martin Grey - Nomadics
http://nomadics.net

Martin Grey has traveled to over 80 countries around the globe in search of places of peace and power and has photographed over 1,000 sacred places. His “Sacred Places” slideshows, National Geographic photos, and biographical pilgrimage book are quite impressive in themselves, however Martin is also a dynamic dancer, bodyworker, and the creator of a personal fitness, flexibility, and health regime known as Nomadics. It’s “a unique synthesis of athletic and dance exercises, physical therapy techniques, and meditation practices from around the world” that is easy to learn and practice. The Nomadics series comprises four DVDs featuring Martin performing and explaining the dynamic movements.
