Environmental

Arizona and the Southwest have a lot of open space, unspoiled nature, increasing development pressure, and a corresponding need for special environmental protection. The Nature Conservancy has a whole website devoted to the “ Last Great Places in the world”. One, the San Pedro River, is in southern Arizona. The interior of the Colorado Plateau, an area spreading out from the Four Corners region that includes parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado, has the world’s most unique concentration of National Parks, Forests, Monuments, and recreation areas. I could continue and perhaps sound like a “the West is the Best” promoters, however many of the environmental groups in this section are not strictly focused on the southwest and pertain to the entire United States and ultimately the whole world we live in. Every part affects the whole.

Environmental News Network - ENN
www.enn.com

“The largest, most-recognized online environmental news source in the world”. Since 1993. ENN reminds me of an environmentally-friendly CNN. It has pizzazz, news quality, and expertise pouring from its pages. You can even watch video news on their ENN TV using their FLIMP, Flash Interactive Media Player. This site deserves a bookmark and daily visit for anyone interested in keeping up with environmental news.

High Country News

The High Country News is a bi-weekly newspaper started 30 years ago by Wyoming rancher and environmentalist, Tom Bell. They are “a nonprofit media organization whose mission is to inform and inspire people to act on behalf of the West's land, air, water and inhabitants. We work to create what Wallace Stegner called a society to match the scenery.” Absolutely one of the best sources for Western news from the eyes of those who love it, want to protect it, and are sensitive to the needs of the different lifestyles and occupations of those who live there.

National Biodiesel Board

Diesel himself postulated that some day his engines may run off vegetable diesel if petrochemicals became scarce. At the time he said it, little was known about the world’s oil reserves. Now it’s a subject we understand all too well and because of the concern for global warming, biodiesel’s day has come. The Federal government thinks so, too, and its mandates on alternative fuels, including biodiesel, are being delivered to all 50 states. Currently the state of Minnesota leads the pack.
