Seeing movies on the big screen in Sedona used to be a simple thing; you went to the only game in town at the Flicker Shack. Then along came Cinedona with two fantastic screens, plush seats, and surround sound. Soon they were all eclipsed by Tempe's Dan Harkins who opened the centrally-located, deluxe five screen cinema in West Sedona. Way out in the Village of Oak Creek, The Supervue Theater with its ultra-wide, wrap-around screen added to the mix a bit later. Yes, for a short period after Mac closed the Flicker Shack it seemed like Sedona would be a film-lover's paradise offering big city choice on multiple screens. For whatever reason came to pass, this momentary, visual plenitude soon returned to the one movie theater model. Harkins Theaters was the only survivor and has carried the torch for years since then until the recent re-opening of the former Supervue Theater, now reincarnated as The Sedona Dream Theater.

Harkins Theaters continues to serve Sedona's appetite for great cinema and also serves as the gracious sponsor of the anuual Sedona Film Festival & Workshop. It has rightfully become a "New Sedona" landmark and is a place for all ages to indulge in their love of cinema.

The Canyon Moon is in its eighth season and under the guidance of director Mary Guaraldi it’s as strong as ever. It has recently finished its search for a new home since leaving its former venue at the Old Marketplace in West Sedona. One of 1,200 or so regional theaters around the U.S., the Canyon Moon dedicates itself to plays and special events oriented specifically to local residents’ interests. My good friend Mike Peach has performed in several of their plays and has even authored a few of his own. Catch Mike and the whole ensemble at their VOC venue.
